About Your Donations

Help keep Mushroom Microfarm alive by donating today! Donations go toward building a bridge on our new property to replace the one that was destroyed in the historic floods in August of 2024.

Read the toggles to the right for more information.

Why do you need the money?

In August of 2024 southwest Connecticut was hit by historic flooding. The flooding in Newtown was especially bad. Two days before the storm, we purchased land in Newtown that we intended to be the future home of Mushroom Microfarm.

During the storm, we lost the bridge that served as the only access onto the land, trapping the sellers onsite in the process.

We need $200,000 to build a new bridge to replace the damaged one, otherwise we may have to shut down the mushroom farm.

Can I donate a check?

Yes absolutely!

Click the button to the left to donate and choose that you want to donate offline. You will be taken to the address to use to mail a check and it will show who to make the check out to.

Where does the money go?

Here is a sample list of expenses to build the bridge based on the estimates we’ve received from different sources:

  • Demolition of the old bridge -$16,000
  • Building a temporary bridge – $30,000
  • Engineering designs – $40,000
  • Prefabricated bridge – $70,000
  • Contract work (building the abutments, etc) – $???
  • Permitting – $???
  • Removal of the temporary bridge – $20,000

What are the ways to help?

Who are you?

We are Mushroom Microfarm.

We live and work on the stolen land of the Golden Hill Paugussett tribe and they are still here.

We are a small for-profit farm in the Newtown/Monroe, Connecticut area that sells culinary and medicinal mushrooms as well as premium tinctures.

We help people who love food achieve greater food security, wellness, and awareness.

We are a family business consisting of James and Shevon, an engineer/growing geek and writer/executive coach.

Our family relocated from Austin, TX to Connecticut in 2021 so that James could care for his father who had ALS. James’ experience with care-giving and loss inspired him to start a micro farm growing the medicinal powerhouses, mushrooms.

We believe that the highest priority today is to strive for right relationship with the earth using sustainable practices and to empower families and farmers to grow food.

Our mission is to gather a community of mushroom growers and mushroom lovers to improve the relationship with the earth and elevate the general wellness of our communities.
