Mushroom FAQs
What is a tincture?
A tincture is an alcohol extract of organic material, such as fungi. This means that molecules from the fungi have been taken out (extracted). Methods of extraction vary, resulting in concentrations anywhere from 25% to 90%!
What are mushroom tinctures used for?
Some ways we’ve seen mushroom tinctures being used by our customers:
- “I use them for energy in the morning”
- “they help me relax”
- “I use them for focus”
- “when COVID hit, nothing else helped me”
- “it stopped the migraines that no doctor could stop”
- “I wanted a natural way to help my autistic child”
This is not everything mushroom tinctures can do. More info here. Email us if you have questions.
What's the difference between your mushrooms and the ones at the grocery?
There are many differences between what you see in the grocery store and what you see on our table during a farmer’s market. Here are a few:
- Variety
Most grocery stories have a limited selection of mushrooms. You’ll find either a plain white button mushroom or a brown cremini. If you’re lucky, you may see shitaki or portebello but they are less commonly found. - Flavor
Even if you’re lucky enough to see more at the grocery store, or even the same variety that we grow, like an oyster mushroom, the flavor will be milder than ours. - Location
Our mushrooms are grown locally in Monroe Connecticut, not shipped from somewhere else. - Quality
Our mushrooms are grown on organic substrate. Since we handle every part of the growing process, we can say with certainty what was used.
What does it take to grow your own mushrooms?
The shortest answer is, if you’re wanting to grow for your family, it takes less than you think, depending on the variety. And if you are looking to grow commercially, it takes way more than you think…
This is a big question. We’ll answer it more fully in our Mushroom Growing course. Subscribe to hear when it’s available.
Is it safe to grow mushrooms indoors?
It depends how they are grown. Mushrooms release spores. Concentrations of these spores might effect sensitive lungs or encourage growth where you didn’t want it. You need proper ventilation when growing your own mushrooms. It also helps to be familiar with the kind of mushroom you grow. We will address this in our Mushroom Growing course.
